Ring sizing guide

The sizes used to measure a ring differ around the world. To simplify things, Jewellery from the Bench uses three ring sizes as standard. These are small, medium and large. The table below provides an approximate of the equivalent ring sizes used in Australia, the U.K., U.S. and Canada.

Measuring your ring size

The easiest way to get your ring size is to measure a ring you already have which fits comfortably on the finger you what your new ring to fit. You need to measure the internal diameter of the ring and then you can compare it to the size chart above to find the corresponding ring size.

If you don't have a ring to measure, not to worry. You can measure the circumference of your ring finger or the finger you want to wear your ring. To do this get flexible measuring tape or even better a pipe cleaner or bread tie (something flexible enough to wrap around your finger, but not too flexible that is can twist or distort the measurement). Once you have the length, then compare your measurement to the size chart above.

Tips for measuring your ring size

Here are some things you should keep in mind when measuring your ring size:

  • How snugly the ring should fit the finger? The measurement you take should be comfortable around the finger but not loose enough that the ring will fall off.
  • Which hand did you measure? The fingers on your dominate hand are generally slightly larger than your non-dominant hand. So for right handed people, the fingers on your right hand will generally be slightly larger than your left. Vice versa for left handed people.
  • When did you measure your ring size? The size of your fingers changes slightly throughout the day, the type of weather or the type of activities you have been doing. When your fingers are cold, they will be smaller than when your fingers are warm. It is best to measure your ring size towards the end of the day when your fingers are warm. However, it is recommended that you take the measurement a few times throughout the day to get a more accurate idea of your size.
